Known for being the grand dame of high fashion, Sarah Jessica Parker’s makeup for this year’s Oscars was a bust. So to avoid being on the same boat here are some tips that will make you shine on prom night and get a two thumbs up from the snooty girls at school.
Preparation
There is more than makeup preparation than lipstick and mascara. Have a clean skin to start with. Wash your face with a mild soap and water. Scrubbing your face with a washcloth will irritate your skin, so avoid this.
Your face would be naturally moisturized, but you still need to apply a light, oil-free coating of moisturizer for makeup to sit evenly. Now let your skin air dry before moving onto the makeup.
The Zit Hunt
Before you apply makeup to your face, do an overall zit inspection of any area that your dress does not cover. This might be your arms, shoulders, and upper back. Apply a light coat of concealer, followed by a very light thin coat of neutral powder to cover up any zit. If a zit appears in an area you couldn’t reach, ask for assistance.
The Makeup
Makeup is most flattering when applied in small amounts. You can skip the foundation if you were blessed with good, clear skin. You don’t need it. The positive should be emphasized. This means that if your eyes always bring you compliments, that’s where you should apply the most makeup. Just don’t go overboard!
Choose muted brown or grey eyeliner or anything that is a few shades darker than your skin and smudge it on. If you are very pale – avoid black liner, unless you are after the Goth princess look.
In the application of eye shadow, caking on the entire compact is not advisable, instead, blend several thin coats together. It will last longer and look better. Just dab a light, shimmery color in the inside corner between your eye and the bridge of your nose, it’ll make your eyes sparkle. Apply a thin coat of waterproof mascara to seal the deal.
Now for that rosy glow, it’s time to apply your blush. Same as the others, just take it easy and don’t over do it. The most essential part of makeup is that no one should be able to tell that you have it on. A color that matches your tone should be chosen. While facing the mirror, smile until your cheeks stand out. That’s where the blush should be applied.
A little gloss on the lips can go a long way, whether they are thin or look like Angelina Jolie’s. And it’s easier to keep it in your purse. Just swipe it across your lips and keep it in your purse if you need a touch up later.
If you’ve got oily skin, put a thin coat of powder so the makeup stays in place. Not too much or it will come off on your dress or your date’s tuxedo sleeve. Do a final check and you’re done!
